Emmanuel Akyeampong, Professor of History

EmmanuelEmmanuel Akyeampong, Senior Advisor for African Studies to the Vice Provost for International Affairs at Harvard University, is the curator of APBF’s Knowledge Bank. He is a Harvard College Professor and Professor of History and of African and African-American Studies (FAS); Emmanuel Akyeampong completed his Ph.D. in African history at the University of Virginia in 1993, and is a leading social historian of the continent.

His original approach to the study of power, gender, environment, health and the African Diaspora has led to illuminating insights in academia around the world. Emmanuel Akyeampong is an active executive committee member of the Center for African Studies at Harvard University and co-directs the Harvard Workshop on African History and Economics.
